WORK

Jorris Verboon lives and works in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) as an information designer and painter. For examples of his editorial work you can visit his company website. There are no examples of his editorial work displayed on this site, the main focus here is his free work. In his paintings and drawings Jorris explores the continuous flow of thoughts that influence our own beliefs and narratives about the self and the world around us.

PAINTING

For his paintings, Jorris uses documented thoughts and visual ideas as a point of departure. Fascinated by psychological narratives, he examines his own creative process as it develops during the production of the work. New elements are added as they come to mind while working. In this sense the pieces are a testimony to the non-lineair stories that are the constructs of our mind. Working towards a snapshot of thoughts and feelings Jorris builds and destroys contstructions and composition resulting in images that can be balanced and quiet or chaotic, unstable and tense. In both of those worlds there is beauty and comfort.

STUDY

Jorris got his BAA Journalism at HvU/Utrecht University in 2001. He also graduated in Editorial Design. Since then he has worked as an information designer for multiple newsmedia  including national broadcasting networks, newspapers, magazines and book publishers. For the past years he has been focusing on his free work, using paint and mixed media to create images that reflect the the non-lineair stories that take shape in our minds.
